First up is The Red Tree (Even)by Piet Mondrian.
This Piece was done in oils on canvas. Created in 1908-1910.
Subject Critique
At first look I thought this was so messy. Are the branches bleeding into the background? Where is this tree standing? The ground under it seem to be a pond but the green is suppose to suggest grass? So much form and shape went into the tree branches but not the surrounding area itself. I feel like the message could be portrait in a simple way using the colors more vividly. The colors are blotched on but I'm thinking of smoother strokes or gradient. I'm going to give the tree a more natural look. Work more around the base too so it can have the natural look. I'm going to use a simpler style to and try to not make a mess of this.
Objective Critique
This abstract uses carefully planned shape and line to over the canvas. The movement of branches across is evidences of that. There is also allot of meaning in the colors. Red is shows the anger and the blues are for the calmness of the world. The many different reds and blues that are being use in this piece. Piet's brush strokes are bold and strong. The thick lines used to create the flow through the branches. The heavy stroke create the branches and giving definite shape.
